Rights & Ownership

Every track. Every contributor. In writing.

Split sheets and co-production agreements protect everyone who creates at Mulika Studios — signed electronically, valid under Ugandan law.

1. Agree before the session

Before (or right after) a session, a split sheet is drafted naming every contributor — artist, producer, writers, featured acts — and the exact percentages each holds in the master, publishing, sync, and neighbouring rights.

2. Everyone signs — deliberately

Each party receives a personal signing link by email. Signing takes reading the full document, confirming your splits, typing your legal name, and entering a one-time code sent to your inbox. It cannot happen by accident, and every signature is recorded with a timestamp and document fingerprint.

3. Everyone keeps a copy

Once the last party signs, the executed PDF — including a signature certificate — is emailed to everyone and stays available in your Mulika account. Each document carries a SHA-256 fingerprint anyone can verify.

4. Old tracks can be formalized

Released something years ago on a handshake? The studio can issue a ratification agreement that memorializes the original arrangement from its true effective date, signed properly today — bringing your back catalogue in line with the law.

The law behind it

Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act, Cap. 222 (as amended, 2026)

Written contracts are now mandatory for copyright transactions. Joint authorship, performers’ and producers’ rights, and royalty collection are all defined here.

Electronic Transactions Act, 2011

Electronic documents and contracts have full legal effect — a signature requirement is satisfied by an electronic signature.

Electronic Signatures Act, 2011

Defines and recognizes electronic signatures, which is how signing on this site is legally binding.
